With mellow handmade bricks in the soft light, Laurel Cottage has changed little since it was built in 1830. An idyllic colonial retreat on the edge of historic Richmond, the cottage stands a stone’s throw from Australia’s oldest bridge.

But in 1986 clever restorers were at work – there’s now electric heating, TV, Radio, Microwave and all the other comforts of modern life.
